4 Month Checkup

Dear Wyatt,

Today was your 4 month checkup!

You were really excited to go and be out and about with your folks on a Wednesday morning.

I love Tiger Pediatrics, I think it is a great place for kids. Not to mention there are a ton of pediatricians there, so someone is always there to take care of your kid. The hours are great, there is a 24-hour line to talk to a nurse (K, Dr. W's nurse, even gave me her cell phone # to text with her questions!), and they are even open on Saturdays. The waiting room is decorated with all sorts of animals and Tigers of the World. There are even fish tanks and a separate seating area for sick kids. It is definitely not your normal doctors office.

Here is an article from the website talking about activity and foods for 4-6 month olds: 4 to 6 Months

Anyway, as soon as we walked in, K exclaimed about your big thighs. She took us to get you measured.

You are:
26" long in the 90th percentile
20 lbs 8 oz in the >97th percentile

Big boy!!! K asked me twice what I was feeding you. I told her both times, just Enfamil!

Dr. W came in to check you out. He had a med student with him that didn't say anything and looked like he was either going to puke or maybe he wasn't really into his Peds rotation. Dr. W looked at your eyes and ears and talked to us about starting rice cereal about now. He said it didn't really have any taste or caloric value (you don't need any help there, he said!), but it teaches you how to eat.

He also told us we could switch to the off-brand formula if we wanted and save $700 a year since it's the same as Enfamil....excuse me?! Dr. W told the med student that a lot of parents buy the "Cadillac" of formula thinking they are doing what's best for their child, when in reality it's the same as the off brand because it's required to be by the FDA.

He asked us if you were rolling over yet, and I said you hadn't except for that one time by accident. He said that was fine, it'll be any day now. He told the med student that the "big guys" tend to take longer to roll over, because it's more work to throw that gut around :)

As for the weight, he wasn't worried. He said your weight now is no indication of how heavy you will be later on. I was never worried about it, though. I know that as soon as you get to moving you will end up a skinny rail like your dad and me. And people make comments all the time, like calling you a "linebacker", saying you look older, or asking me what I am feeding you. I don't get offended, though. I'm very proud of you and I think it's great you are a big, healthy boy! We've come a long way from getting weight checks your first week here.

After your exam, K came back in. You were due for 3 vaccines this time. The first was oral, then you got two shots, which you didn't appreciate. You broke down with the second one, but I got you dressed and your daddy picked you up and you were fine by the time we went up to the receptionist to schedule your 6 month checkup.

I gave you some Children's Tylenol when we got home and you ate a bit from your bottle and Daddy went to work. Once you passed out, I picked you up and took you to our bed and you and I crashed for a few hours.

Now you are awake and jumping in your jumper. K told me to massage your thighs and have you kick a lot today, but you are starting to fuss so I better go.

Love you Big Boy!
Momma
