Welcome to the World

I got a text this morning from Cindy and she delivered Eva at 3:33 AM. She sent a picture of her too, and she is absolutely gorgeous. I lay awake thinking about the baby in the picture, who didn't look like a pinched-up red newborn, but a beautiful little angel baby. I thought about Cindy, and how just a few years ago we were in high school and now she has had a little baby and I am pregnant with one. I lay awake excited for Cindy and her family, and for me and mine.

I finally fell back asleep and woke up in a great mood that nothing could shake today, not even the CRNA trying to stir up the surgeon or the dogfood-esque lunch I ate from the cafeteria. I was in a great mood, excited for the new baby in the world, excited to think that in the spring I will get to join that elite club of mothers.

I think what excites me the most is the end result, that we have been watching bellies grow on Facebook for months now, comparing them to the size of grapefruits and celery stalks, and then BOOM. There is a baby in this world. And the thought of getting to see eyes for the first time, touch fingers, marvel at the hair on their head...it's amazing, because until then they have been an ultrasound picture, and you wonder whose eyes he/she will have, whose nose...

Freakin' amazing.
