You are 6 weeks old today!
Things this week:
- You are grabbing - and HARD. You get pissed when I take too long to get the bottle to your mouth and grab ahold of my finger like nobody's business! It startled me for a minute the first time you really grabbed on.
- Your hand-eye coordination is improving. This morning you discovered your hand for the first time and curled your fingers and uncurled them slowly and very intently for your dad.
Mommy is frazzled! You were a holy terror this past week, mommy couldn't console you for anything.
Then we started trying to get in a routine. We started trying to eat every 3 hours instead of every hour snacking like you were trying to do. You were wearing both of us out!
Mommy has become a night-time bottle-whipping diaper-changing button-snapping baby-swaddling ninja. But seriously, I'm getting the hang of it and we are getting back in bed sooner.
Not all the time...
So we were getting up around 1 AM and 4 AM and 6 AM for night after night after night and mommy was exhausted and gonna pull her hair out and then something magical happened one night...you woke up at 2 AM and then didn't get up til 6 AM! I kissed and kissed you because I felt like a new woman.
I think what helps is I'm starting to get you into a bedtime routine. I'm trying to get you fed between 9 and 10, get you swaddled and in the bassinet before 11 (because you get PISSED), and get us to sleep around 11:30. It is a workout because you seriously are a night owl and fight me at every step, but you are learning to fall asleep on your own which I think will help in the long run.
It's like your back hits the bassinet and your eyes pop open!
Anyway, mommy shut down the milk store for good this past Friday. I know, shun-shun from the La Leche League, but I was becoming a lazy pumper knowing we were gonna have to wean before I went back to work, I was tired of my boobs being mechanical - nothing is more crappy than being hooked to a pump seeing your nipples get pulled 3 inches away from your tatas in my opinion, and I was just burnt out doing it during the day but especially at night when I needed precious sleep. OMG this sounds sooo selfish, doesn't it?! AHHH! That's it, mom's an asshole.
I'm glad I could do it for you for almost 6 weeks, but you are doing great on formula and are drinking and pooping like a fat little champ!
You stayed with Grandma Lorrie this past Saturday so you could hang out with your Aunts Melanie and Stefanie. It sounds like you kept everyone awake with your grunt-grunt-cackle-grunt-fart noises all night, and you were fussy as hell, but mommy slept so hard at home that I woke up with a crick in my neck! OMG it was A-mazing!
Right now you are having tummy-time with dad. Except you keep trying to fall asleep (in preparation of trying to be up all night!?!)
I was told crying peaks around 6 weeks, that you can be crying for up to 2 hours a day....honestly I don't know how you are going to top week 5!
Who needs a Boppy when you have a puggle?
Love,
Mommy
