You are 30 weeks this week and my belly is definitely a conversation piece. I mean, it is out there. Sometimes I feel like a small planet navigating my way through the halls of the OR. Other times I feel like a whale that has been beached. When I am trying to roll off the couch I am a turtle stuck on it's shell.
You are still the size of a squash (about 15.2 - 16.7 inches long and 2.5 - 3.8 lbs). During this week, your skin is getting smoother and you are now strong enough to grasp a finger. A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds you, but this amount will decrease as you get bigger and take up more room (how is that possible?!).
Your eyesight is getting sharper, but you will still only have 20/400 vision when you are born. I hope your sight becomes excellent and a sharp 20/20 like your dads and not a horrible 20/1000+ like mine. Mommy has astigmatisms in both eyes and can only get to 20/40 with contacts. It sucks because sometimes I even have to have your daddy read me things off a drive-thru menu. Effing McDonald's with their tiny print.
Fingernails and toenails are finally finished (please don't scratch yourself, baby). Your brain is getting wrinkly and folding due to rapid growth of your brain cells. You are also starting to shed your lanugo (that downy hair covering your skin) now that you are plumping up. Fatty!
Mommy is having heartburn sometimes so badly I cannot lie down and end up chewing Tums like it's going outta style. My fingers and toes are getting tingly and starting to swell slightly. My shoes feel tighter and even after I take my socks off it still feels tight like I have them on. I'm still breathing like a kid at fat camp - I don't notice it until someone calls me on it. Also, sleep sucks. It just is uncomfortable, but I still look forward to it!
I'm feeling you more and more, my little tap dancer...or kick-boxer? I am feeling you high up now, right under my breasts. Sometimes you can even hurt a little bit with some of your movements, or at least surprise me to the point I go, "Whoa!"
Today I had an appointment with Dr. T, the cardiologist. He took a listen to me and asked how things were doing. He says after the pregnancy he would like to do a transesophageal echocardiogram to take a closer look at my heart. He also said he would like to see me right before I deliver, and since I am already 30 weeks he said he would like to see me in a month since at 36 weeks and after it is anyone's guess on when you are coming.
After Dr. T, I went to see Dr. W for my OB appointment. She told me I PASSED the gestational diabetes test with a score of 126 (anything under 140 is passing, she said). My labs (like hemoglobin and hematocrit and platelets) were good as well. She dopplered your heartbeat and it was racing and she asked me how things were doing, if I was uncomfortable (yes) and not sleeping well (yes) and if I was doing a childbirth class (no) and if I had picked out my pediatrician (yes). Then I went on my way. I see her again in 2 weeks.
This past weekend was the baby shower for work. A lot of people couldn't make it due to this nasty GI bug going around, being on call, or having other plans - but we still had a great time! We played a few games and ate lunch and had some cake.
Is that not the cutest cake ever?
My work family pooled their money together and got you this, Wyatt:
As well as this:
My mom and I went to Babies R Us and she bought the high chair for us. And we also got to park in one of these for the first time:
And I also ordered and got this lamp in for your nursery since they were sold out at the Babies R Us store:
So freakin' adorable. I have had my eye on it since we bought your baby bedding, so it was a must-have for sure.
In this past week, 2 girls from nursing school and one of our friends from high school welcomed baby boys into this world. In fact, one of them came just last night! I have been looking at their baby pictures with excitement on Facebook, wondering if you will have hair or not, wondering if you will be calm as a cucumber or severely pissed off. With them posting pics it makes me that much more excited to meet you, but I know you still have some time to go in there. And mommy still needs to get some things done.
Pick out a pediatrician- Call UNUM to start filing for short term disability for work
- Maternity photos (Colton is going to do this for us when we venture down to Springfield in Feb!)
- Baby shower February 18 with AJ's family
- Pick out and buy a stroller and carseat
- Pack a bag for the hospital
- Final touches on the nursery
- Nest!
Love you,

Sweety, this is so cool. You need to print this all out when it is over and keep it in a book for Wyatt to read the day he gets married and is having his own child for the first time.... Keep up the writing... Love reading them.
